Viasat Survey Shows Growing Importance of IFC for Passengers

Viasat’s 2023 Passenger Experience Survey showed that 81% of the 11,000 respondents consider in-flight Wi-Fi an important part of the passenger experience, marking a 4% increase compared to last year. However, half of those surveyed said they would be less likely to connect to in-flight connectivity services if there was a fee to do so. Furthermore, 50% felt that Wi-Fi should be free on all short-haul flights, while 82% believed it should be gratis on long-haul routes.

Inflight Dublin Signs Marabu Airlines, Enhances Everhub

Inflight Dublin has announced that Estonian leisure carrier Marabu Airlines has deployed its Everhub wireless in-flight entertainment solution across its Airbus fleet. The company managed to deliver the service to Marabu within six weeks. Inflight Dublin has also made some enhancements to Everhub, adding a more advanced widget-based user interface, plus the ability to automatically filter content based on destination and other criteria. It is now preparing to release the fifth generation of its Everhub server.

John Horsfall Discusses Future of Aviation Textiles

In a conversation with APEX Media, Ellie Parkes and Alexandra Allen from John Horsfall talked about the company's transformation into an airline textiles specialist over the past few decades. In response to environmental concerns, John Horsfall launched the 'ReThread' brand, featuring products crafted from recycled materials such as GRS-certified polyester and reclaimed cotton. Furthermore, the company is exploring innovative materials like cooling pillows and dual-sided pillows, designed to enhance passenger comfort naturally without the need for chemical treatments.

Hansair Showcases InProdiconAir’s Curated Radio Solution

US-based supplier Hansair is showcasing Curated Radio, a new music solution for airlines developed by its partner InProdicon Air, a white label provider of digital streaming services, at the 2023 APEX IFSA Global EXPO. Offering upwards of 1500 channels categorized by genre, mood, decade and more, Curated Radio has been designed to generate both customer engagement and ancillary revenue. It can be offered in-flight and before and after the passengers’ journey, either for free or for a small fee.

Adaptive Unveils Press-to-Podcast Technology

Adaptive has unveiled its new Press-to-Podcast technology, which allows passengers with visual impairments or elderly passengers that struggle to read to engage with content that was previously confined to the written word. Leveraging AI-driven content transformation and advanced language processing capabilities, Press-to-Podcast enables the conversion of traditional press articles from newspapers and magazines into podcast-style audio content. The solution comes in response to a combination of both media consumption trends and airline requests.

In Conversation: Simon Jaffe, Buzz Products

Buzz Products' Global Client Service Director, Simon Yaffe, talked to APEX Media about the company's focus on sustainable materials, such as organic textiles and recycled plastics. Examples of sustainable solutions implemented for airlines include FSC-approved paper and soy-based inks for Singapore Airlines kids' kits. Yaffe said that all amenity programs now include a bamboo toothbrush and skincare tubes made from aluminum or recycled plastic. Buzz emphasizes design aesthetics to create products passengers want to take off-board, promoting sustainability and innovation in collaboration with customers.

NetForecast launches QMap Airport at APEX 2023

NetForecast has unveiled QMap Airport at APEX/IFSA EXPO 2023, designed to address poor cellular performance at airports and reduce the risk of flight delays and revenue loss. The app employs Application Performance Index (Apdex) scoring and reporting for easy data interpretation. The dashboard provides reports detailing service quality by airline and airport over time in key airport areas. It tracks essential metrics impacting the user experience, such as effective bandwidth, network latency, DNS lookup time, and packet loss, which are all converted into user satisfaction ratings.
