ANA to Launch LCC for Asia/Australia Service

Japan’s ANA Group intends to launch a new brand to serve low-cost, medium-haul flights to destinations in Southeast Asia and Oceania. The company will use its existing 787 fleet, reconfigured for a higher density layout, to deliver “sustainable growth through transforming the services of the Group’s airlines to cater to a wider range of customer needs in price range and services.” The move is part of a major operational and brand overhaul that ANA hopes will stem losses and leave the company more responsive to rapidly shifting market conditions.

Marseilles Boosts Testing, Dubai Relaxes Rules

Marseilles Airport is the first in France to offer a free, quick antigen test for all travelers passing through its terminals. Other French airports are ramping up similar testing capacity. While the number of destination countries accepting antigen tests remains limited, the reassurance to passengers is seen as an additional benefit. In Dubai, passengers are required to take a PCR test on arrival to enter the country, and most must also take one prior to travel. Updated policies, however, now allow for visitors from the UK and Germany, as well as returning citizens, to only be tested on arrival.

Airport Food Delivery Trend Picks Up During Pandemic

Airport delivery services aren’t new – AtYourGate, an app that enables food delivery to the gate, launched in March 2018 – but the trend has gained momentum as travelers avoid lining up at airport kiosks due to COVID-19. AtYourGate is now available at 11 airports, with another dozen launching this year. LAX Order Now facilitates food pickup from dozens of restaurants at the airport. Grab and 3Sixty Duty Free partnered to allow travelers to use their mobile devices to shop and order retail items for in-store pickup or gate delivery at DFW.

Clear Channel Brings Third-Party Ad Validation to Airports

Advertisers will have a new way to evaluate the efficacy of their ads in airports as Clear Channel Airports evolves its monitoring services. The new methodology marks a shift from measuring campaigns solely by passenger count towards a greater understanding of audience behavior and a consumer's likelihood of engaging with ad media in an airport. In comparing historic passenger counts in six US airports against new Geopath audience measurements, the data shows airport campaigns are delivering impressions at a much higher rate, in some cases up to eight times what was previously reported.

Milan’s downtown Bergamo Airport remains focused on its capital plan, keeping its 2030 goals top of mind through the current downturn. “We must look forward and remain positive that we will return to pre-pandemic traffic levels, and therefore we must remain prepared and ready for the future,” said Giacomo Cattaneo, director of Commercial Aviation, SACBO. “We want to ensure we continue to be a quick and vibrant airport, full of services and facilities for all.” The airport recently completed a reconfiguration of its terminal space and added a lounge for passengers with reduced mobility to help ensure that it can meet the needs of passengers into the next decade.
