Arup and SOM tapped to lead major reimagining of Newark Liberty Airport

Arup in partnership with Skidmore, Ownings & Merrill (SOM) has been brought on board to lead the "major reimagining" of Newark Liberty Airport.  This follows the $2.7 billion overhaul of Terminal A, which is set to debut later this year, and replaces the original terminal opened in 1973.  “The Port Authority is driving a $30 billion investment in transforming the region’s airports into a network of modern, world-class gateways,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton, in a statement. “The vision plan for Newark will guide its transformation into a 21st century best-in-class global hub."

Spirit talks seats and service with APEX CEO Dr Joe Leader

Spirit Airlines unveiled their new HACEO Vector Light and Vector Premium seats in dramatic fashion during yesterday's Guest Experience & Ongoing Innovation session at the APEX/IFSA EXPO in Long Beach. As well as talking about the new seats, the discussion with Spirit’s VP Guest Experience Brand and Communications Lania Rittenhouse focused on how improved seating is just one additional way Spirit’s ongoing Invest In The Guest initiative is changing up expectations for ultra low cost carriers.

Designing sustainable passenger experience initiatives

The final day of APEX/IFSA EXPO saw a panel discussion on designing sustainable passenger experience initiatives. The session panellists included Boeing Director of Product Marketing for Sustainability Tasha Jackson, KLM CXO Boet Kreiken, SAUDIA Chief Commercial Officer Arved Muhlen and Airbus Head of Cabin & Market Insights Stefan List. The moderator was APEX/IFSA CEO Dr Joe Leader, and the panel focused on areas ranging from passenger communication for the need for greater collaboration in the industry.

Club World full-service returns to British Airways

British Airways is relaunching its much-anticipated Club World (business class) service with new menus offering customers a more brasserie-style dining experience when they travel. The return to a full service will include new standards of dining where each course is served to customers individually. British Airways will start serving signature hot soups and warm desserts, such as artichoke and parmesan soup with rye croutons and warm apple strudel with vanilla sauce, which form part of the airline’s winter menus.

Changi Airport launches security slot booking service

Changi Airport Group (CAG) has introduced a service that enables passengers to pre-book slots for security screening. ChangiQ is accessible via the iChangi app. It is intended to reduce the waiting time in queues and ensure that passengers can enjoy the dining, shopping and play options at Changi Airport. Passengers with a booking can use the special lane for security. The service is currently only available to passengers traveling on Singapore Airlines but Changi is looking to add other airlines progressively.

EASA awards AES with STC for forward closets on B737 NG

Western Ireland-based Aerospace Engineering Solutions has received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) from EASA for the installation of forward cabin closets on Boeing B737-800 aircraft. The modification, developed in conjunction with Causeway Aero in Northern Ireland, sees seat track-mounted underbin coat stowages installed to the forward left- and right-hand cabin area of the aircraft.
