Oneweb, GDC Advanced Technology Team Up on Compact Antenna

OneWeb and GDC Advanced Technology are jointly developing a compact in-flight connectivity (IFC) terminal. Early ground testing has already taken place, with flight tests due to begin in early 2022 before the terminal is set to enter service in 2023. Based on electronically steered antenna technology developed by Ball Aerospace, it has been engineered to allow airlines to deploy a hybrid LEO/GEO connectivity solution. The terminal has an attenuated aerodynamic profile that produces virtually no drag, significantly reducing fuel burn compared with current fuselage-mounted antennas.
