United Airlines will be the launch customer for Bombardier’s CRJ550 regional jet. With 50 aircraft on order, the airline expects its regional parter GoJet to be operating 25 of the aircraft before the end 2019.
Bombardier Commercial Aircraft has officially launched its new CRJ550 regional jet, the world’s first triple-class 50-seat aircraft. United’s regional partner GoJet will be the first airline to operate the latest CRJ Series variant, which is based on the CRJ700 platform.

“The new CRJ550 model is the only solution in North America that can replace the existing fleet of aging 50-seaters, a market of over 700 aircraft,” said Fred Cromer, president of Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. “It offers improved passenger experience with ample on-board storage for carry-on bags and more passenger living space. This is one more example of how we are focusing on creating value for our customers and a very important endorsement from United in regards to the CRJ platform.”
Bombardier also said the CRJ550 will feature a self-serve beverage and snack station, and more legroom per passenger than other 50-seat aircraft flown by US carriers.
United has ordered a total of 50 CRJ550s and deliveries are scheduled to begin later this year. Its current target is to have 25 CRJ550s in service by year end and all 50 aircraft in service by summer of 2020.
The Chicago-based carrier has opted to configure its CRJ550s with 10 first-class seats, 20 Economy Plus Seats and 20 economy-class seats. Each aircraft will also be equipped with in-flight Wi-Fi. However, the self-serve beverage and snack station will only be available to United’s First customers.
