Crystal Cabin Award Postponed to 2021, New Hygiene Category Added

“The Oscars” of the aircraft interiors industry was cancelled this year, but will go ahead in 2021 with the addition of a new category to reflect innovations across the aviation industry in response to COVID-19.
The Crystal Cabin Award (CCA) Association, together with its independent jury of 27 aviation industry experts, has decided to reschedule this year’s Crystal Cabin Award ceremony to April 13, 2021. The 14th Crystal Cabin Award ceremony was due to take place on April 1, 2020, but like the Passenger Experience Conference, Aircraft Interiors Expo and World Travel Catering and Onboard Services Expo, couldn’t go ahead due to COVID-19.
All 24 finalists announced earlier this year, chosen from over 105 initial submissions across eight categories, are still in the running and will have the opportunity to present their entries to the CCA’s expert jury the day before the ceremony.
Furthermore, to reflect the range of product developments taking place due to the coronavirus pandemic, a special trophy will also be presented for concepts related to hygiene in the aircraft cabin. This summer, an interdisciplinary project team made up of members of the Crystal Cabin Award’s judging panel will determine the details of this new category. The submission phase will start on October 1, 2020, and the winner will be announced at the public awards ceremony.
Subject to approval by the jury, there could also be a second special category comprising innovations from all non-pandemic-related fields. If this category is approved, the details will be decided by the judging panel’s working group.
