Alaska Airlines has become the first carrier to bring SkyLights’ Allosky VR headset to North America. The entertainment solution, which screens 2-D, 3-D and forward-facing 360-degree films on a Full HD cinema screen, will be piloted as a first-class amenity on Alaska Airlines’ Seattle-Boston and Boston-San Diego routes.
“Alaska Airlines is excited to be the first airline in North America to trial virtual reality headsets as an IFE device.” – Brett Catlin, Alaska Airlines
“Alaska Airlines is excited to be the first airline in North America to trial virtual reality headsets as an in-flight entertainment device,” said Brett Catlin, Alaska Airlines’ managing director of Guest Products. “We’re thrilled to partner with innovative companies like Skylights that share our desire to enhance the guest experience.”
Passengers on board the pilot flights will be able to choose from titles provided by SkyLights’ partners 20th Century Fox, Warner Brothers and EIM, including Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri; Ready Player One; and Ferdinand. The headsets will also be preloaded with short forward-facing 360-degree VR films – covering subjects including free diving, classical music and acrobatics – selected especially for their suitability to the in-flight viewing environment.
