American Airlines will be the first airline to offer the Spafax Profile Skill for Alexa when it becomes available to customers later this year. The voice-activated service allows travelers to plan their in-flight entertainment before takeoff and is the latest addition to Spafax’s Profile entertainment personalization platform, which is set to launch with American this October.

“The new Alexa skill from Spafax will allow customers to interact with us in a fun and engaging way.” – Brian Richardson, American Airlines

“Our customers are using Alexa-based devices for other products and services, and the new Alexa skill from Spafax will allow them to interact with us in a fun and engaging way,” said Brian Richardson, director of In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity at American Airlines.

Using Alexa-enabled devices, like the Amazon Echo speaker, American Airline customers will be able to ask questions about the entertainment available on board their upcoming flight. The service is designed to provide information about the titles, actors, ratings and more. Examples of questions the Spafax Profile Skill for Alexa can answer are: “Alexa, ask American Airlines what TV shows are available on my flight” and “Alexa, ask American Airlines to tell me more about the TV show Veep.”

“American is leading the way in finding more innovative ways to connect with passengers, and [the Spafax Profile Skill for Alexa] will help make their in-flight entertainment even more compelling,” said said Tony Taverner, CTO, Spafax.
