Aviation Industry Blooms With The Spring Festival

“Spring Festival holiday is the busiest season for Chinese carriers, which are expected to transport up to 47.52 million passengers during the 40-day ‘Chunyun period,’ an increase of 8 percent over the same period last year,” reports the World Civil Aviation Resource Net (WCARN).

The Shanghai Airport Authority indicates that Chinese holiday-makers made more than 3.6 billion trips during the travel peak last year in all forms of transport.

Balancing between capacity demand and comfort has yielded interesting proposals. Spring Airlines recently suggested that stand-up seating could be a good fit, but a more comfortable solution could be Airbus’ higher capacity A350-1000.

There has also been a growing trend for luxury options. Air China‘s unique cabin and lounge experience is inspired by cultural iconography with a focus on passenger well-being throughout the journey. China Eastern Airlines has also debuted attractive new interiors for its 777-300ER. Neighbor Singapore Airlines has debuted a new premium economy cabin to be fitted between its comfortable economy cabins and luxurious business class cabins.

The demand in the skies also leads to hot developments on the ground. The new Beijing Airport Headquarters, designed by ADP Ingeniérie and renowned architect Zaha Hadid, will bring high-end design to the world’s largest airport terminal.

Hong Kong Airlines will celebrate this festival with an aviation twist, debuting its special film Triumph in the Skies on the first day of the Chinese Lunar New Year.

“The film will surely become a hit during the coming Spring Festival season. We hope that inspired by the film, more people will grow fond of flying, and even join the aviation industry,” says Hong Kong Airlines commercial director Mr. Li Dianchun.

Other parts of the aviation world have also been inspired to participate. Hamad International Airport has set up a bespoke Chinese-themed pavilion for the holiday, located behind the airport’s iconic teddy bear sculpture.
