Best Hacker Movies Ever

It’s not easy to make a good movie about hacking, but these films do the trick.
Ghost in the Shell
Based on a 1989 manga series that predicted everything we use today: commercial Internet, wearables, GPS, AI, self-driving cars, and more – as well as the security implications. Action-packed, thought-provoking, and creepy. You cannot call yourself a futurist unless you’ve seen this movie.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Lisbeth Salander is probably the most compelling hacker ever to appear on the big screen. The American remake is faster-paced, but Noomi Rapace brought Salander to surly life in this slow-burning Swedish flick. Not for kids, this one.
The Imitation Game
Alan Turing hacked for England to break Germany’s naval Enigma code, only to be persecuted by his own country. Benedict Cumberbatch was nominated for an Oscar for his performance as Turing; who, along with Ada lovelace and Charles Babbage, brought modern computing to life.
TRON
Way ahead of its time in subject matter and visual effects, and still retro-trastic today. The film takes place inside a computer as Jeff Bridges hacks his way to freedom. Are you catching the TRON references in ABC’s mega-hit series Once Upon a Time?
Citizenfour
A documentary about Edward Snowden, who blew the whistle on the US Government’s global hacking scheme. Director Laura Poitras makes a story with no physical action very exciting to watch.
