APEX Insight: Global Eagle Entertainment has added health recommendation app Airhealth to its portfolio of in-flight entertainment.
In response to high demand from airline clients, Global Eagle Entertainment (GEE) has added Airhealth to its portfolio. The seatback and Android app is intended to offer passengers health recommendations during their flight.
“Airhealth was designed through discussions and requests with airlines,” says Alexis Steinman, SVP, Digital Media Solutions, GEE. According to Steinman, there’s been an observable demand from airlines looking to provide passengers with health and wellness tips.

Offering meaningful health advice to travelers requires a fair amount of research and an extensive range of categories. “There are tons of sources of varying quality,” says Steinman. Dorling Kindersley Publishing was selected as the primary source of content, which includes attractive visuals and easy-to-follow exercises. A wide range of topics offers something for every passenger, spanning from food and diet tips to disability management recommendations and deep vein thrombosis prevention advice.
Content is delivered to passengers through the seatback screen and can be augmented with a complimentary Android app, both of which can be tailored by the airline. The iOS version is currently in the pipeline. Personalization and interactive features such as pop quizzes and a Jet Lag Recovery Plan – which allows users to input route and time to create an accurate plan – staves the program from falling into boring textbook territory.
Within the platform, there’s room for airlines to collaborate with wellness brands on promotional opportunities, too. The app doesn’t have a launch customer yet, but Steinman says that with the demand that prompted Airhealth’s development in the first place, “We expect to have an airline to present Airhealth with in short order.”
