Whether you’re flying home or escaping a winter wonderland for somewhere balmy this December, seasonal touches are making this year’s holiday flights a real gift.

A Little Goes a Long Way

Christmas isn’t complete without a traditional meal, or at least a nod to it. Heathrow Airport is combining dinner with dessert by giving passengers bon bons in three festive flavors: Christmas pudding, sage stuffing and turkey.

On top of the holiday glitz and unique treats, it’s often that little something extra that makes a holiday memorable. With the launch of their pre-boarding gift wrap service at JFK airport, Virgin Atlantic is ensuring their travelers no longer have to choose between a security agent unwrapping their gifts or a relative finding exposed presents. It’s a handy insight into the realities of playing Santa.

    The Gift of Giving

Speaking of playing Santa, WestJet and Air Canada are vying for title of ultimate Canadian Kris Kringle this year. WestJet granted holiday gift wishes to a few lucky passengers, while Air Canada flew a London pub full of Canadian expats home to their families for Christmas. Wrapping the Plane

Finnair, Santa’s official airline since 1983, is once again flying St. Nick from his Lapland home to cities across Europe and Asia. Santa’s paparazzi (parents of small children) will be able to spot him as he arrives, since Finnair stamped the aft fuselages of two of their Airbus 321 Sharklets with his merry face.

A Boeing 747-86J served as a 61.3-foot (18.7-meter) canvas for illustrator Thies Schwarz, who designed seasonal livery for airberlin. In the spirit of airberlin’s Christmas motto, “Flying home for Christmas,” the airplane’s windows have been re-imagined as the windows of a row of snow-covered houses. Little details make it worth a closer look.

Magic is in the air, so keep your eyes open for other special touches at airports and runways near you.
