Next to take the spotlight in our In Conversation series is Laura Trevelyan, Anchor for BBC World News. Laura is returning to EXPO as morning session emcee for Education Day and we are honored to have her back for 2014. In our EXPO preview coverage, Laura talks to us about the hot content-related topics on the agenda, her must-have travel items and her latest family vacation activity (which scored her major “Cool Parent” points!).

About Laura: Before moving to New York in 2004, Laura was a Political Correspondent for BBC TV and radio news, appointed in June 1999. She covered the conservative campaign in the 2001 General Election across all BBC TV and radio news outlets, reported for the BBC’s Newsnight programme, and then reported on the 2004 US Presidential Election for BBC News outlets in the UK. Laura has reported for the BBC from all around the world. In 2006, Laura published a book about her ancestors: A Very British Family, The Trevelyans And Their World.

Q: What are you most looking forward to?

A: I attended last year’s event and enjoyed meeting delegates from across the industry.   As someone who travels a lot with my job, it was interesting to get a different perspective on the industry and the developments that may impact on my own experience of travel in the future – topics of discussion like the impact of second screen usage on planes and whether passengers will take to watching entertainment on their smartphones. This year I will be once again moderating a panel and working with other colleagues who are attending the event from BBC World News.

Q: What are some of the major points the panel will cover?

A: The panel will look into the user experience for travellers, exploring how content is selected and what kind of content is watched the most.  The panel will also debate what can and cannot be streamed, and how content is protected once it’s placed onto a passenger’s device.

Q: What are your top three travel items?

A: My top three travel essentials would have to be a charger, my iPad and a blanket for the plane – these three items are  always packed into my hand luggage.

Q: Last place traveled for fun?

A: My last holiday was to Newport, Rhode Islandwhere I tried surfing with my three sons.
