APEX Insight: Lufthansa Systems has updated its BoardConnect in-flight entertainment platform with virtual window and cockpit views of points of interest and cities, as well as a new virtual sound feature, which provides passengers with a surround sound-like experience.
In-flight entertainment is becoming more immersive with improvements to sound quality, virtual perspectives and panoramic video.
Among the upgrades to Lufthansa Systems’ BoardConnect in-flight entertainment platform are virtual views from the cockpit and the passenger window, with points of interests and cities highlighted along the way. Nicola Vultaggio, senior product manager, Lufthansa Systems, said although the moving map already existed on BoardConnect, his team wanted to take it a step further with geographical details.
Another new feature introduced to the company’s platform is virtual sound, which provides passengers with a surround sound-like experience. To create the effect, software is used to enhance the blasts of cinematic explosions or revving sports car engines.
The experience is maintained regardless of the make of headphones passengers use.
