Milestone Installation and Fleet-Wide IFEC Contract for Kontron

Kontron is celebrating a milestone for its popular ACE Flight 4608 avionics server, which has now been installed on more than 300 aircraft around the world. The company says the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 supplemental type certificates (STCs) it holds for the product facilitate quicker installations, which have led to its wide adoption.
Recent updates to the ACE Flight 4608 server enable it to store up to 8 terabytes of data and optimize support for a range of applications including satellite and ATG connectivity. The server has also achieved FAA PMA and EASA Form 1 specifications along with China CAAC regulatory approvals. By Q1 of next year, Kontron expects to receive linefit approvals for the server on both Boeing and Airbus aircraft.

The STCs for ACE Flight 4608 have also been designed to work with another Kontron product, the Cab-n-Connect A100 wireless access point (WAP). The WAP was used by Lufthansa Systems to equip Lufthansa’s FlyingLab innovation testbed on an Airbus A380 that operated a flight from Munich to Los Angeles ahead of this year’s APEX EXPO.
In other news, Kontron said it has won a contract to supply in-flight entertainment and connectivity hardware fleet-wide to a major European airline specializing in leisure and charter travel. The initial phase of the installation will be for more than 100 Boeing aircraft, in time for the airline’s 2020 spring and summer schedule.
