Now Live: Gogo TV on Hundreds of Aircraft

Gogo TV is now active on more than 550 aircraft. The milestone, announced at APEX EXPO, covers aircraft equipped with the 2Ku in-flight connectivity system flying on American Airlines, GOL Airlines and Delta Air Lines.

The IPTV solution delivers multiple channels of live television programming to aircraft, with the content being sent to passengers’ Wi-Fi enabled personal electronic devices or integrated into an airline’s seatback entertainment system.

Gogo TV uses high-efficiency video coding compression that reduces satellite bandwidth usage by up to 40 percent. Unlike competing systems, Gogo TV combines multiple channels into a single multicast stream. The result of statistical multiplexing provides the best possible perceived video quality while consuming the least total bandwidth.

Edwin Edillon, Gogo’s director of Product Management, highlighted the offering’s ability to deliver a flexible channel lineup unique to an airline’s needs and existing content partnerships as Gogo TV’s key differentiator.
