APEX Insight: With two booths, two announcements and more on the way, Inmarsat has come out in full force for this year’s APEX EXPO.

Inmarsat, a global leader in mobile satellite communications, has upped its presence at APEX EXPO 2016 with a second booth that’s focused on in-flight connectivity.

“We’ve come to APEX EXPO 2016 to really make a statement about Inmarsat Aviation, and say ‘We’re open for business,'” says Dominic Walters, senior director, Marketing, Communications and Strategy. “Our second booth is about the connected aircraft, and bringing possibilities to light.”

Visitors to the booth will be invited on a “flight to Barcelona,” given an iPad and instructed to step inside of a representation of an aircraft cabin and cockpit. Using augmented reality, visitors become passengers and experience stories related to how the in-flight journey can be enriched with connectivity.

“We’re talking about the benefits of the technology, and we’re showing the potential reality of the passenger experience,” says Walters. “I think it’s really critical that as a business, we understand where it’s going. We’re ready for it and we’re investing in that future.”

Inmarsat started the show with an announcement that it will partner with Honeywell Aerospace to deliver its new SwiftBroadband-Safety service to airlines and business aircraft operators. The new service provides secure broadband IP-based in-flight connectivity, allowing for the two-way data flow of cockpit and operational data. Inmarsat has also signed a pre-agreement to appoint Satcom Direct (SD) as a global distribution partner for SwiftBroadband-Safety.
