Turkish Airline customers can now watch Turkish news channel TRT World live in flight.

TRT World, an international news platform launched in 2015 and headquartered in Istanbul, is now available as part of Panasonic Avionics Corporation’s eXTV global television platform. Tukish Airlines is the first carrier to activate the channel for travelers.

“It is important to stay informed and up-to-date on world events. Passengers tune in to different outlets for news and it’s vital to have variety in your sources to have a more well-rounded view of current events,” said Fatih Er, director of News and Programs, TRT World. “Partnering with Panasonic to deliver our content in flight is a major achievement to fulfill our promise to offer our service everywhere.”

The deal sees TRT World join Panasonic’s selection of globally recognized news channels including Al Jazeera, BBC World News, CNBC, CNN International, EuroNews, NHK World Premium and Sky News Arabia. Each eXTV airline customer chooses which of the channels to make available to passengers on board via a mobile app or embedded screens. The service is delivered over the same Ku-band satellite connection as Panasonic’s eXConnect on-board internet service.

“Our mission is to keep passengers informed and entertained with quality programming.” – Julie Lichty, Panasonic

“Panasonic is proud to offer the world’s only truly global in-flight live television services. Whether it’s the best in current affairs, sports and entertainment from a selection of the world’s premier media brands, our mission is to keep passengers informed and entertained with quality programming,” said Julie Lichty, Panasonic’s head of Digital Solutions and Services, highlighting the global reach of the company’s live television offering as well as the breadth of content available for airline customers. “We believe that TRT World is a significant enhancement to our portfolio, and will be a tremendous enhancement to our airline customers’ passenger experience.”

The TRT World deal with Panasonic has been a couple of years in the making, with Turkish Airlines first announcing planes to include the content on its planes in December 2016. Today’s news expands that proposition to the global airline community, allowing any Panasonic eXTV customer around the world to offer the additional content.
