There were plenty of aircraft deliveries around the world throughout 2018 and airlines rightfully showed off their brand new and revamped cabin interiors. In case you missed them, here are some of the highlights of this year.
Singapore Airlines: Boeing 787-10
Singapore Airlines unveiled a two-class cabin interior on board its new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner in early spring. It includes a new regional business-class cabin with 36 lie-flat seats in a 1-2-1 configuration. Each business-class seat has been padded with Alcantara synthetic leather and includes an 18-inch HD seatback display.
The economy-class cabin has also been refreshed, with 301 seats arranged in a 3-3-3 layout. Each seat includes an 11.6-inch seatback screen and power outlets.
Gulf Air: Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner
Gulf Air’s first aircraft donning a redesigned livery and new cabin interior, a Boeing Dreamliner 787, entered service in late April on the carrier’s double-daily London Heathrow route, before being completely rolled out across the airline’s fleet.
Tangerine worked closely with Saffron Brand Consultants, which oversaw the development of the refreshed livery, logo and brand identity, to implement the airline’s “Smart With Heart” brand concept.
Phillippine Airlines: Airbus A350
Philippine Airlines’ first A350-900 began commercial flights in July between Manila and New York, followed by services to and from London.
The wide-body aircraft’s interior was designed by LIFT Strategic Design and features 30 Thompson Vantage XL Seats in a 1-2-1 layout in business class, 24 premium economy seats in a 2-4-2 layout, and 241 economy-class seats in a nine-across configuration.
JetBlue: Airbus A320
JetBlue unveiled its first Airbus A320 with a reconfigured cabin in early May. The reconfiguration adds two different seats to the airline’s A320s. Rockwell Collins’ Pinnacle seat will be installed on the first 12 revamped A320s by the end of this year.
During the second phase, Rockwell Collins’ Meridian seat will be fitted on JetBlue’s remaining 118 A320s throughout 2019.
WestJet: Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner
In May, WestJet unveiled its Boeing 787-9 interior, which features the airline’s first-ever business-class cabin. The Calgary-based carrier has firm orders for 10 Dreamliners and options for another 10, with the first scheduled for delivery in early 2019.
Designed by PriestmanGoode, the interior will feature a three-class layout, including a business class with lie-flat seats, a premium economy section with a social area and economy-class seats with seatback in-flight entertainment and charging ports.
WestJet said the cabin interior’s color palette is inspired by Canadian themes with tones including “alpine lake blue” and aurora€‘inspired shades.
Delta Air Lines: Boeing 777-200
Delta Air Lines introduced its first of 18 revamped Boeing 777-200s featuring new premium cabins in early July.
The wide-body aircraft was retrofitted with 296 seats, including 28 lie-flat business-class suites, 48 premium economy seats and 220 economy-class seats in a nine-abreast configuration. The airline expects to complete work on the rest of its fleet by the end of 2019.
Hong Kong Airlines: Airbus A350 (Business Class)
Hong Kong Airlines unveiled a revamped business-class cabin on board a newly delivered Airbus A350 in early September.
The interior features 33 Rockwell Collins Super Diamond international business-class lie-flat seats in a 1-2-1 layout and Thales AVANT in-flight entertainment hardware with 17-inch seatback displays.
KLM Airbus A330-200
On March 15, KLM unveiled its first Airbus A330-200 to undergo cabin refurbishment. It was designed by the airline in collaboration with Dutch industrial designer Hella Jongerius and features a business-class cabin with lie-flat seats and a new in-flight entertainment system, with 18-inch seatback displays and noise-cancelling headphones for each passenger.
The economy-class cabin also has a new IFE system with 10-inch seatback displays, as well as new carpeting and curtains.
Air Tahiti Nui Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner
Air Tahiti Nui unveiled its new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner cabin interiors on March 23. The first of four long-haul aircraft entered service in November on flights between Tahiti and Auckland, New Zealand.
The three-cabin layout includes Air Tahiti’s first-ever premium economy section, which features 32 Zodiac Aerospace Z535 seats in a 2-3-2 arrangement, offering 38-inches of pitch, a width of 19 inches and a seat recline of eight inches.
The business-class cabin features 30 full-flat seats designed by Rockwell Collins in a 2-2-2 configuration, while the economy-class section has 232 seats.
