APEX Insight: A partnership between Latécoère and PXCom means passengers will be able to learn about points of interest when watching a live bird’s eye view of the landscape beneath the aircraft. The integration will be on display at Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) next week. PXCom will also unveil its interactive meals menu at the event.
Latécoère has selected PXCom to enrich its live in-flight video feed, made possible by cameras affixed to the fuselage of the aircraft, with augmented reality. PXCom will provide descriptions and images of points of interest that will be superimposed on the video stream in real time. According to Cyril Jean, CEO of PXCom, the integration should launch in the first quarter of next year.
“PXCom has a worldwide database of geopositioned points of interest,” Jean told APEX media. “The system is provided with all the flight information from the ARINC, and thanks to that the matching is done in real time between what is seen by the camera and the database.”
Airlines can generate ancillary revenue by integrating advertising spaces that will be automatically filled with partners’ advertising material. Latécoère will be offering live demonstrations of the integration at Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) in Hamburg next week.

PXCom will also be unveiling its interactive meals menu at AIX. The in-flight app, which is designed to be integrated into the IFE’s GUI, includes buy-on-board snacking and click-and-deliver options. It can be tailored for different cabins or routes and can be updated with editorial content about featured chefs and sommeliers, or sponsored content from advertisers. In certain cases, according to Jean, the app can be synced to the crew’s devices so that they can receive orders in real time. PXCom plans to announce the product’s launch customer by July.
