RECARO Unveils R4 as Its Next Generation of Premium Class Seating

RECARO Aircraft Seating has introduced the R4, its next-generation premium class seat and successor to the PL3530, which launched in 2015. The new seat combines updated comfort and ergonomic features with a 16-inch monitor, adjustable headrest, privacy wings, ambient lighting, power options, and greater flexibility for airline customization. Deliveries began in June 2026, with the R4 expected to enter service later this year.
RECARO R4 Brings New Features to Premium Class
The R4 builds on RECARO’s PL3530 while introducing several new features designed around passenger comfort and the changing needs of premium cabins. One of the most visible additions is a 16-inch monitor. The R4 also includes a six-way adjustable headrest with integrated neck support, allowing passengers to adjust the headrest based on their preferred seating position.
Privacy is another focus of the new seat. The R4 includes privacy wings with an integrated reading light, while side ambient lighting adds another element to the overall cabin experience.
The seat can also support a range of power options, helping passengers keep their personal devices charged throughout the flight. RECARO has not specified which configurations individual airlines will select.
Another new feature is an extra-wide, single-plate tray table with a soft open and close mechanism that includes an integrated personal electronic device holder for smartphones and tablets. Furthermore, RECARO has included a side console with dedicated access for passengers with reduced mobility.

The R4 has already received European Technical Standard Order certification for the Boeing 787, while additional aircraft certifications are currently in progress. Deliveries began in June, with the first seats expected to enter passenger service later in 2026.
R4 Gives Airlines More Cabin Customization
Beyond the passenger-facing features, RECARO has designed the R4 to give airlines more flexibility in how the seat fits into their individual premium cabin products.
Airlines can customize the seat through different color, trim, and finish options. This allows carriers to match the R4 with their own brand identity and cabin design. That flexibility gives airlines another way to differentiate their premium cabins through materials, lighting, privacy features, and other design elements.
The R4 also continues RECARO’s focus on lightweight seat design, combining new passenger features with the operational needs of airlines.
