[PHOTOS] Spirit Unveils First Aircraft Equipped With New Cabin Interior

Spirit Airlines has completed a ribbon cutting ceremony at its hangar in Detroit, Michigan, to mark the introduction of its updated cabin interior design. The seats were revealed at APEX EXPO in LA in September.

Spirit’s new interior, which was developed as part of Spirit’s Invest in the Guest initiative, has been installed on board an Airbus A320neo that was delivered to the carrier earlier this month. It showcases a Spirit-branded black and yellow color palette as well as an updated carpet and new signage.
Newly updated Big Front Seats, supplied by HAECO Cabin Solutions and accented with yellow and black stitching, were inspired by passenger feedback and feature an ergonomically improved headrest padded with memory foam, as well as additional memory foam in the seat cushion.
The rest of the cabin is equipped with seats from Acro Aircraft Seating built with a composite skeleton and padded with an ultra-light weight foam. Each one is 2.6 pounds lighter than its predecessor, helping to improve fuel efficiency. Acro’s seats also feature elevated literature pockets to offer passengers an extra two inches of useable legroom and an additional inch of pre-recline compared to Spirit’s current seating configuration.
“Our new seats and cabin redesign were developed from the ground up to enhance the experience, while maintaining our low fares at the same time,” said Ted Christie, president and CEO, Spirit Airlines.
The fresh cabin interior design will be installed on nearly 150 new Airbus A320 family aircraft set to be delivered to Spirit over the next several years, and the airline will also update the interiors of aircraft cycling through scheduled maintenance.
Other projects in the pipeline as part of the Invest in the Guest initiative include in-flight Wi-Fi powered by Thales’ Ka-band high-throughput satellite solution.
