Stellar Awards Hub Helps Airlines Source Award-Winning IFE

Stellar Entertainment has launched the Stellar Awards Hub, a free tool for all airlines regardless of their content service provider, that allows them to see which award-winning films and TV shows are available to license in-flight.

The selection – which is updated in real time and contains information like availability dates, distributors, and territory details – includes nominees and award winners from the current season of the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, BAFTAs, Primetime Emmys, Critic’s Choice Awards and Independent Spirit Awards.

Moving forward, Stellar Entertainment’s Managing Director Sam Allen says this will be broadened out “to include additional award shows and festivals that we know are relevant to airlines when selecting titles and making programming decisions, such as Sundance and Cannes, as well as more regional awards like the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, Hong Kong Film Awards, and Golden Rooster.”

With more and more award-winning films and TV shows being streaming Originals from major platforms like Netflix, HBO Max, Paramount+, Disney+, Apple TV+, Hulu and Peacock, the availability of which for in-flight entertainment licensing has historically been unclear, Stellar wanted to create a platform that addressed this pain point.

The Stellar Awards Hub is made possible using the API functionality of the company’s pixL workflow and content management tool. Allen explains, “pixL employs a multifaceted approach to aggregate information from various sources, including inflight distributors, IMDb, Google AI and ChatGPT. When a new title is added to our extensive library of inflight Film and TV avails, our system automatically initiates processes to gather relevant metadata such as images, cast details, genres, box office data, ratings, and translations. This seamless integration ensures efficient and comprehensive content management within our platform.”

While available to all airlines, Allen points out that Stellar Entertainment’s clients “enjoy additional advantages through their access to the Stellar IFE Portal, which enables airlines to make all their content selections and explore the complete list of IFE avails (including award winners and nominees), oversee their IFE budget and workflow, track media delivery, and access tailored insights and analytics.”

Sam Allen is taking part in a panel session on ““AI-Assisted” Smart Metadata in the Content Delivery Supply Chain” the upcoming APEX TECH event in LA from February 28-29.
