Thai Airways Partners with Neo Space Group for In-Flight Connectivity Upgrade

Thai Airways International has selected Neo Space Group (NSG), Saudi Arabia’s leading satellite services provider, to implement new in-flight connectivity solutions across its fleet. The agreement, announced at the APEX Global EXPO in Long Beach on October 30, 2024, will enable passengers to access up to 200 Mbps of internet speed.

The connectivity upgrade will be implemented on Thai Airways’ future A321NX aircraft and existing B777 fleet, utilizing Airbus HBCplus and Safran’s AeroConnect terminals, respectively. The airline plans to offer complimentary Wi-Fi streaming to its premium class passengers and Royal Orchid Plus members.

NSG’s solution, called Skywaves, was developed with Display Interactive and will use the SES Open Orbits™ network, pending regulatory authorizations. The multi-orbit system aims to provide comprehensive coverage across Asian routes through an interoperable Ka-band platform that can direct traffic across multiple satellite networks.

“Thai Airways International is committed to delivering an elevated guest experience,” stated Mr Wirush Theparak, Head of Customer Experience and Product. “Our partnership with NSG allows us to vastly improve our in-flight connectivity and offer our passengers new levels of convenience, entertainment, and comfort.”

NSG CEO Martijn Blanken noted that the collaboration demonstrates the capabilities of their multi-orbit connectivity solutions while supporting Thai Airways’ focus on service enhancement.

The implementation involves collaboration with several technology providers, including Airbus HBC+, Safran, and Eclipse, to ensure seamless fleet integration. This makes Thai Airways the first Asian carrier to adopt NSG’s advanced multi-orbit connectivity solution.

Neo Space Group, owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), provides various space services, including satellite broadband communications, in-flight connectivity, earth observation, and satellite navigation. The company’s involvement in this project aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 economic diversification goals.

Thai Airways, Thailand’s national carrier, operates routes across 30 countries and has been publicly listed since 1991. The Ministry of Finance holds a 47.86% stake. The airline provides comprehensive transportation services, including passenger, cargo, and postal transportation, along with additional services such as ground handling and aircraft maintenance.

The partnership represents a significant step in Thai Airways’ efforts to enhance its digital services and passenger experience and marks NSG’s expanding presence in the aviation connectivity sector.
