TSA Turns to Public for Improvement of Airport Experience

In our August issue, we asked industry leaders what their ideal airport experience entailed. Personal wish-lists varied, with requests ranging from smarter airport furniture to zen yoga rooms for passengers in transit. But when asked what airports should do away with, one answer came shining through: security lines. “Do away with the dread of the security lines as far as safety allows. A few companies are working on streamlined versions that are less intimidating, more human and user-friendly,” says Alastair Gordon, author of “Naked Airport.”
Last month, the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced they are looking to do just that. The government agency is crowdsourcing the best idea to speed up its screening lines and they’re awarding a total of $15,000 to the best submissions.
Not surprisingly, the public took to Twitter to discuss their “unofficial” ideas.
Some ideas were productive:
Have complimentary disposable bags for people to put items in to take with them after being scanned so there's no backup!! #TSA #OrangeRoom

#OrangeRoom Passengers can't get organized until X-ray conveyor. Transparent Tote-bags after initial check-in would give us extra time.

Some were just plain silly:
#orangeroom #tsaideas. Take the bus

#OrangeRoom I've got it! A naked line. I'd walk through.. Just sayin.
