APEX Insight: Envee Inflight Entertainment has partnered with yoga coach Charlotte Dodson to create wellness app FlyWell, providing meditation and yoga instruction to passengers throughout the duration of their journey.

China-based Envee Inflight Entertainment has partnered with yoga coach Charlotte Dodson to create a seatback wellness app, Flywell, that guides travelers through mediations and yoga sequences to practice throughout their journey.

“Many passengers struggle during long-hauls with staying comfortable and relaxed,” says Envee’s Phoowan Bosveld. “We want to satisfy the passengers by making them as comfortable as it can get, that includes entertainment but also physical needs,” says Bosveld.

The partnership formed with Dodson will see her popular video content transferred to an in-flight audience. Short clips accompanied by calming music will guide passengers through relaxation exercises, breathing techniques, meditations and yoga sequences tailor for travelers that can be performed before, after and during the flight, logistics notwithstanding. Ironically, attempting the airplane pose mid-flight may not fly with attendants or other travelers.

Airports worldwide have long facilitated the yoga craze, but momentum seems to have hastened of late with a pilot program at Vancouver International Airport and Paris Aéroport’s ParisYogAéroport initiative as a few examples of many.

Bosveld says the Fly Well app was developed as a response to requests made by existing customers and is under evaluation by a ground-based operator. The demand from airlines for wellness programs was also recently echoed by Global Eagle Entertainment, who launched fitness and wellness app AirHealth this week.
