[VIDEO] Diehl Aviation Showcases Smart Cabin Concepts

At Aircraft Interiors Expo this week, Diehl Aviation displayed a number of innovations, ranging from its touch-free hygienic lavatory concept to its “bookable” bin.
Diehl Aviation technology specialist Marcel Schmedes spoke to APEX Media director Maryann Simson about the company’s most exciting cabin interiors ideas:
During the show, the cabin and avionics company also announced that Qatar Airways will be the first airline to install its 3D-printed Curtain Comfort Header, which it claims is the largest 3-D printed part to be produced for passenger aircraft.
Developed in conjunction with Airbus for the A350 XWB in just 12 months and already certified by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the curtain rail guard can measure up to 1140 x 720 x 240 millimeters.
It uses a production method known as fused deposition modeling, removing the need for the many individual tools and processes required previously. Instead, the Curtain Comfort Header is comprised of up to 12 3-D printed parts, which can be easily taken apart for repair and replacement, minimizing the time needed for future maintenance.
Diehl Aviation was shortlisted for a Crystal Cabin Award in the he Visionary Concepts category for its Context Controlled Cabin (C3).
