Wizz Air has selected Geven’s new Essenza single-aisle economy-class seat for its 110 new Airbus A320/A321neo aircraft, marking the Central and Eastern European low-cost carrier’s largest seat order ever. The Italian seating and interiors manufacturer, which has been supplying seats to Wizz Air since the airline’s first Airbus narrow-body acquisitions in 2007, says the order comes as a confirmation of faith in the company. “They booked our seats – each and everyone of them – off the drawing board,” Doria De Chiara, Geven’s business development director, said. “It’s a matter of trust, which they renew continuously.”
The new seat, which will be deployed in a single-economy class layout on the aircraft – with 239 passengers on the A321neo and 186 on the A320, will be rolled out from January 2019 and streamlined over the following five years. According to Geven, the seat features a light-weight cushion, ultra slim backreast contour and a new primary structure designed to maximize knee clearance – up to 25% more compared to the current Puma seat used on Wizzair’s A320ceo fleet.
“This seat choice was so good, we decided to make it for 110 aircraft.” €” Johan Eidhagen, Wizz Air
“At the end of the day, it’s always a combination of a bunch of factors that go into making the decision – the long-term relationship, the right pricing, how forward-looking the product is, whether it is going to be competitive in 15 years time. But at the end of the day, it’s about what the passengers need to sit on, and then all the other matters fall into place,” said Johan Eidhagen, chief marketing officer, Wizz Air. “This seat choice was so good, we decided to make it for 110 aircraft.”
