IdeaNova is introducing a new approach to inflight personalization with its Inplay AI platform at Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX) 2026. The platform is designed to deliver real-time, personalized content onboard even when aircraft are fully offline, addressing one of the biggest limitations in today’s connected cabin. By moving intelligence onto the aircraft itself, it makes personalization a consistent part of the passenger experience rather than something that depends on connectivity.

Bringing AI Onboard to Enable Offline Personalization

Inplay AI is built around a simple but important idea. Instead of relying on cloud-based systems that require constant connectivity, IdeaNova has developed an onboard engine that runs directly on existing aircraft hardware.

This allows airlines to deliver personalized recommendations across entertainment, shopping, and destination content even when connectivity is limited or unavailable. In practice, the system activates as soon as a passenger opens the inflight portal, adapting content in real time based on behavior and preferences.

The result is a more dynamic experience that goes beyond a static content catalog. A passenger browsing movies might see recommendations based on their habits or mood, while another could get destination ideas tailored to their trip. Retail offers can also be personalized, moving from generic options to suggestions that match each passenger’s preferences.

This approach speaks to a bigger industry challenge. Even as airlines invest in connectivity, limited bandwidth and inconsistent coverage still make it hard to deliver consistent personalization. When the connection drops, most systems fall back to basic features. Inplay AI is designed to do the opposite, using onboard processing to keep the experience strong even without connectivity.

Privacy is also a core element of the platform. Because everything runs locally, passenger data does not need to leave the aircraft. This is particularly important for business and premium travelers who expect both personalization and strong data protection.

From a technical perspective, the system uses lightweight AI models optimized for onboard environments. These models perform real-time inference directly on the aircraft, allowing the platform to respond instantly to passenger actions without relying on external servers. Before departure, the system prepares baseline recommendations using available data such as route and loyalty information. During the flight, it continuously refines those recommendations based on what passengers watch, browse, or purchase.

When connectivity becomes available, the system can sync insights in the background to improve future recommendations without affecting performance during the flight. This approach keeps the experience responsive in real time while still enabling long-term learning.

Turning the Inflight Portal into a Revenue and Engagement Engine

Alongside improving the passenger experience, Inplay AI also supports a key airline priority: turning inflight digital platforms into meaningful revenue channels. As connectivity becomes more common and often free, the focus is shifting from charging for access to monetizing engagement.

By aligning entertainment, retail, and destination content with individual passenger interests, the platform increases interaction with the onboard portal. More engagement creates more opportunities for onboard sales, advertising, and ancillary services.

For example, a passenger browsing destination content might see curated recommendations for restaurants, attractions, or activities, opening the door to partnerships and commissions. Retail offers can also be personalized, making them more relevant and more likely to convert than traditional one-size-fits-all options.

“Passengers expect personalization everywhere they travel,” said IdeaNova CEO Juraj Siska. “But inflight systems have traditionally depended on connectivity to deliver it. Inplay AI changes that by bringing intelligence directly onboard the aircraft, allowing airlines to deliver relevant experiences regardless of network conditions.”

A key advantage of the platform is its ability to integrate with existing systems. Inplay AI can be added to current in-flight entertainment (IFE) platforms, streaming systems, and connected cabin solutions without requiring a full replacement. This lowers the barrier to adoption and allows airlines to introduce AI-driven personalization without major investment.

The platform is especially valuable for portable or wireless IFE, where connectivity may be limited or unavailable. In those cases, delivering personalized experiences without relying on bandwidth becomes even more important.

By running on existing hardware, Inplay AI avoids the need for additional satellite capacity or costly upgrades. This allows airlines to scale personalization across their fleets while maintaining cost efficiency and operational flexibility.

More broadly, the platform reflects a shift in how airlines view the inflight portal. Rather than serving only as an access point for entertainment, it is becoming a central hub for engagement, commerce, and communication. With AI-driven personalization, it can adapt to each passenger and deliver more relevant interactions throughout the journey.
