APEX Insight: As APEX MultiMedia Market takes off in Paris, Spafax announces that it has negotiated for American Airlines to offer Austin City Limits content, including performances by Roy Orbison and Coldplay, exclusively until 2019.

American Airlines customers can now watch episodes of KLRU-TV’s PBS concert series Austin City Limits in flight. Passengers can choose from eight episodes each month, featuring a variety of artists, including Roy Orbinson, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Radiohead and Foo Fighters.

“We’re thrilled to be able to present great Austin City Limits live music performances to American Airlines passengers,” said Tom Gimbel,  Austin City Limits general manager. “These are some of the best episodes in our 43 year history.”

The Austin City Limits series is currently available for in-flight entertainment exclusively on American Airlines flights. It will become available to the wider in-flight market in 2019.

Emma Gunn, director, Programme Acquisitions & Content Partnerships at Spafax, the global entertainment and media agency that helped negotiate the deal, said, “We’re always in search of unique content partnership opportunities for our clients. Both American Airlines and Austin City Limits have set a strong precedent for entertainment in their respective industries and we’re thrilled to bring both of these Texas-based brands together.”

Spafax announced during APEX EXPO in September 2017 that American Airlines will be the first airline to offer the Spafax Profile Skill for Alexa. The voice-activated service allows travelers to plan their in-flight entertainment before takeoff.
