AIM Altitude worked with Thompson Aero Seating to “seamlessly” integrate the front row monuments with the Vantage business-class seating platform on board China Southern Airlines’ Boeing 787-9 fleet.

AIM Altitude said it has “seamlessly” integrated the front row monuments of China Southern Airlines’ Boeing 787-9 fleet to align with the business-class seating in the aircraft cabins. The company worked with Thompson Aero Seating, China Southern’s business-class seating supplier for the 787-9 fleet, to develop front row monuments with integrated stowages.

The monuments were manufactured from standard composite panel and laminate finishes with the intention of harmonizing with the Vantage seating platform and carrying the same aesthetic features.

AIM Altitude says the monuments transition “flawlessly” by aligning the footwell area with the lie-flat seats when fully reclined. The in-flight entertainment monitors and literature pockets were also manufactured to match the seats.

Both Thompson Aero Seating and AIM Altitude are subsidiaries of AVIC Cabin Systems and have worked on similar projects in the past. “Our relationship with Thompson allows our two companies to work with meticulous coordination to ensure that the finished product is equally seamless,” said Shaun Hogarty, project manager for AIM Altitude. The two companies also collaborated with Factorydesign, a London-based studio with experience of customizing the Vantage seating platform.

“There were many complex challenges in making the whole scheme succeed with a unified and continuous flow.” – Colin Winterburn, AIM Altitude

“There were many complex challenges in making the whole scheme succeed with a unified and continuous flow. For example, integrated closets, with overhead bin-ends, close out in the tapered section of the of the fuselage and needed to align with the Boeing-installed structure,” Colin Winterburn, engineering lead at AIM Altitude

For the outboard units, AIM Altitude made full-height closets, featuring coat rails and door-activated interior lights, and integrated with the front of the half-height front-row seat furniture.
