Rockwell Collins’ New vMUSE Mobile Check-in Desk is Set to Simplify Travel

At the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Paris this week, Rockwell Collins debuted its new portable check-in desk solution – ARINC vMUSE mobile – which allows agents to register passengers for their flights virtually anywhere.

The innovative device consists of little more than a Windows-based tablet and can be enhanced with peripherals such as a portable keyboard, a passport reader and a small portable printer to issue boarding passes. This lightweight and portable hardware packs powerful software with the same functionality as traditional IATA-compliant common-use passenger processing system (CUPPS) running on the terminal’s check-in desks. The vMUSE mobile system links to the airport’s CUPPS through the cloud, wherever there is an Internet connection, and requires no special installation or software configuration.

“Beyond the airport, ARINC vMUSE mobile opens up a number of unique passenger processing opportunities that include off-airport check-in, processing for start-up operations and onboard passenger processing.” -Christopher Forrest, Rockwell Collins

“ARINC vMUSE mobile fills a need for airports, enabling them to take a full CUPPS where traditional systems are unable to go,” said Christopher Forrest, vice president, Global Airports for Rockwell Collins. “Beyond the airport, ARINC vMUSE mobile opens up a number of unique passenger processing opportunities that include off-airport check-in, processing for start-up operations and onboard passenger processing.”

Airlines and airports can use vMUSE mobile to provide a more personalized check-in experience to premium passengers, or to deploy additional check-in services to address demand caused by flight disruptions.

“Weather, maintenance and other factors that can cause flight delays or cancellations wreak havoc with an airport’s schedule and are a major source of frustration for passengers,” said Forrest. “When irregular operations occur, ARINC vMUSE mobile allows agents to go anywhere in the terminal to process passengers quickly and cost effectively.”
