SES and Air Astana have launched a new multi-orbit inflight connectivity (IFC) service on the first aircraft in a planned rollout across the airline’s Airbus A321LR fleet. The first equipped aircraft entered commercial service on October 29, 2026, marking another step in the airline’s efforts to improve its onboard passenger experience. Air Astana plans to expand the service across its remaining A321LR aircraft, offering complimentary streaming for premium passengers and paid connectivity packages for Economy Class travelers.

Multi-Orbit Connectivity Aims to Improve the Passenger Experience

The new inflight Wi-Fi service uses SES’s multi-orbit satellite network and an electronically steered array (ESA) antenna to provide more consistent internet access during flights. The technology supports connectivity across different routes and regions, helping passengers stay connected throughout their journeys.

SES will manage the service across Air Astana’s A321LR fleet, supporting passenger activities such as messaging, browsing, and streaming.

“Airlines are increasingly looking for connectivity solutions that deliver a seamless passenger experience while providing the flexibility to evolve with changing customer expectations,” said SES Senior Vice President of Aviation Blane Boynton.

Air Astana Plans Fleet-Wide Connectivity Rollout

Following the initial launch, Air Astana plans to introduce the service across its remaining A321LR aircraft. The airline operates domestic, regional, and international flights throughout Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Far East, the Gulf, India, and Europe.

Passengers will access the service through an Air Astana-branded Wi-Fi portal. Premium customers will receive complimentary streaming services, while Economy Class travelers can choose from flexible paid packages based on their connectivity needs.

QMobile, formerly Jusan Mobile, a telecommunications and technology provider in Kazakhstan, will support the service as Air Astana expands it across the fleet.

“Today’s passengers expect to stay connected wherever they travel, whether they are working, keeping in touch with family and friends, or enjoying entertainment during their journey,” said Air Astana Vice President Yelena Obukhova.
