The launch of SkyLights’ Allosky headset at SriLankan Airline’s business-class lounge at Bandaranaike International Airport marks the American-French company’s first deployment in the Asia-Pacific region.

SriLankan Airlines introduced SkyLights’ immersive entertainment experience in its business-class Serendib lounge at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on Thursday. Using SkyLights’ Allosky and Skykids headsets, both adults and children can watch films and TV series in 2D, 3D and 360° while waiting to board their flight. Films available include Crazy Rich Asians and Ready Player One (in 3D), as well as Ferdinand (in 3D), Harry Potter and The Lego Batman Movie (in 3D) for younger travelers. Focus adjustments allow for glasses to be worn under the device.

“The lounge is an important part in the premium customer journey and to date there has been little in the way of passenger entertainment in this space,” said David Dicko, CEO of SkyLights. “With SriLankan Airlines we secure our first deployment in the Asia-Pacific region.”

Etihad tested SkyLights’ Bravo/Bravo Evo headsets at its first- and business-class lounges at Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Terminal 3 last April, while Emirates offered the technology in Dubai International Airport’s Concourse B – in its business-class lounge in April and in its first-class lounge – in May. SkyTeam conducted a similar trial in its Dubai lounge at the end of 2017. “These trials were successful with results inline with our 90% average recommendation rate,” said Rory Gillies, communications manager at SkyLights. “Discussions are ongoing and we expect to announce more news on one or two of these in the not too distant future.”

“We are pleased to partner with SkyLights in our endeavor to provide a memorable travel experience,” said Vipula Gunatilleka, SriLankan Airlines,’ CEO. “Introducing this immersive cinema experience for the enjoyment of our premium passengers is a truly progressive step given.”

Depending on the results of the deployment in BIA’s Serendib lounge, SriLankan Airlines may look to introduce the service in flight, following in the footsteps of Joon and Lufthansa. Alaska Airlines was the first domestic airline to offer the Skylights Allosky headset in first class as part of a limited trial period.
