Throughout this long weekend at the box office, Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 continued to take wing with audiences worldwide, the Penguins of Madagascar drew in family crowds and the indie sensation Birdman feathered its nest with several award nods. It was a great week to be a bird in Hollywood.
Taking in another whopping $56.9M over the long Thanksgiving weekend, the penultimate chapter in Lionsgate’s Hunger Games saga has amassed a truly epic global haul of $480M after barely two weeks in theatres. Waddling well behind Katniss Everdeen was the latest entry in Dreamworks’ hugely-popular Madagascar franchise, The Penguins of Madagascar, which landed in second place with a $25.4M finish.

Also opening over the long weekend was Warner’s Horrible Bosses 2, which took in $22.7M since opening on Wednesday to finish in fifth place. Top-lined by Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day and returning “horrible bosses” Jennifer Aniston and Kevin Spacey, Bosses 2 was a solid performer but didn’t scare up as much business as Horrible Bosses, which opened with $28.1M over a three day window in 2011.
