Jetstar is rolling out a new seat design across its Boeing 787 fleet that puts power at the center of the passenger experience. Its first aircraft equipped with Burrana’s RISE Power and Passenger Service Solution has now entered service, bringing high-speed charging and integrated seat controls to every traveler. The rollout signals a broader shift to treat power as core infrastructure for the connected cabin.

Power to the Passengers

Jetstar’s newly retrofitted Boeing 787-8 aircraft, registered VH-VKK, introduces a fully integrated seat system built around Burrana’s RISE Power platform. Installed across both business and economy class, it provides dual 60W USB-C outlets at every seat, allowing passengers to charge modern devices quickly and efficiently. With capacity to serve all 325 passengers onboard, the upgrade reflects the growing demand for reliable, high-speed power throughout the journey.

Each seat also features a built-in passenger control unit, enabling travelers to manage reading lights and call functions directly from their seat. By combining power delivery and passenger service controls into a single platform, Burrana removes the need for separate hardware components. This integration is a key part of what Burrana calls a power-centric cabin design, with Jetstar serving as the launch customer for the new approach. The result is a simpler, more streamlined experience, where passengers can access what they need through a simple interface.

Moreover, it reflects how passenger expectations are changing. Travelers increasingly rely on their personal devices for entertainment, work, and communication, so fast, consistent charging has become a key part of the onboard experience. With high-wattage USB-C power at every seat, passengers can stay connected from departure to arrival.

In particular, the system supports wireless in-flight entertainment (IFE). For low-cost airlines, which do not typically install costly seatback screens, passengers often use their own devices to consume content. In this setup, reliable power becomes essential, letting passengers stream, browse, and stay connected without interruptions.

“The entry into service of the first Jetstar aircraft equipped with RISE Power + PSS represents an important milestone for Burrana and our airline partners. As more airlines transition toward wireless entertainment and connected cabin experiences, integrated seat power and passenger service functionality becomes critical cabin infrastructure on wide body aircraft. Our one-box architecture delivers both while reducing weight and complexity, and we’re proud to support Jetstar in bringing this upgraded cabin experience to passengers,” said Burrana VP Global Marketing and Sales David Pook.

A Full Cabin Refresh Upgrades Jetstar’s Long-Haul Experience

Jetstar’s new power-focused seat design is part of a much larger refresh of its Boeing 787 fleet, centered on improving the overall passenger experience. The first upgraded aircraft, VH-VKK, has returned to service after a nine-week refit in Hong Kong with new cabins, onboard Wi-Fi, and improved aircraft capabilities.

This is the most significant update Jetstar has made to its 787s since their entry into service, with all 11 aircraft set to be upgraded by late 2027. The goal is to deliver a more comfortable, connected, and competitive long-haul product.

In business class, the cabin has more than doubled in size, growing from 21 to 44 seats. The new seats focus on comfort and practicality, with a 38-inch pitch, seven-inch recline, and a six-way adjustable headrest. Features like calf and footrests, better cushioning, and bi-fold tray tables and built in device holders make it easier to relax or get work done.

Economy class has also been upgraded with new RECARO seats. They offer a 30-inch pitch and five-inch recline, giving passengers more space than on Jetstar’s narrow-body aircraft. The seats include adjustable headrests, extra cushioning, and device holders, along with the same dual USB-C charging as business class. Altogether, these updates create a more consistent and comfortable experience across the cabin.

One of the biggest additions to Jetstar’s 787s is inflight Wi-Fi. For the first time, passengers can connect to satellite internet powered by Viasat. The service supports streaming, messaging, browsing, and general internet use throughout the flight.

Business class passengers get free access to the airline’s Streaming-Plus service, which includes unlimited browsing and entertainment. Economy passengers can choose from different paid options, including a full-access plan or a lighter package focused on social media and basic browsing.

Beyond the passenger-facing experience, the cabin refresh also brings operational upgrades that expand Jetstar’s operational capabilities. The addition of six lie-flat crew rest bunks allows the aircraft to fly up to 16 hours, opening the door to new long-haul routes. This added range gives the airline more flexibility as it continues to grow its international network across Asia and beyond.
