LOT Begins Dreamliner Wi-Fi Rollout as Part of Wider Cabin Modernization

LOT Polish Airlines (LOT) has begun rolling out high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi across its long-haul Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, marking a significant step in the carrier’s evolving passenger experience strategy. The airline’s first Boeing 787 equipped with Viasat connectivity recently entered service, with additional installations planned in the coming months. By positioning digital access as a core component of long-haul travel, LOT aims to better align its onboard product with changing passenger expectations.
Expanding Connectivity Across its Dreamliner Fleet
The rollout represents a new phase in LOT’s broader effort to modernize its in-flight offering. Powered by Viasat’s next-generation Amara connectivity platform, Wi-Fi is now available on the airline’s first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, registered SP-LSA, which returned to service last week after spending a month in Rzeszow for retrofit work. In-flight connectivity (IFC) will be introduced on additional aircraft in the coming weeks, with LOT expecting at least two more Dreamliners to gain connectivity by the end of April.

“Internet access has become an expected part of the offering on long-haul flights,” said LOT Polish Airlines Director of Product Development and Customer Experience Office Izabela Leszczyńska. “We view its implementation across our fleet as a natural stage in the development of our product. Our passengers travel for different purposes, and we want them to be able to spend their time onboard exactly as they need, whether that means working, staying in touch with loved ones, or simply relaxing.”
The investment also reflects LOT’s positioning within Central and Eastern Europe’s competitive long-haul market. As the airline expands service to destinations across North America and Asia, consistent onboard connectivity becomes an increasingly important differentiator.

From a technical standpoint, the Viasat Amara platform introduces higher bandwidth capabilities than legacy systems. Lower latency and improved network reliability support more demanding functions, including video streaming and cloud-based work tools. This aligns with a broader industry shift as airlines increasingly treat connectivity as core onboard infrastructure rather than an optional feature.
“With Viasat’s global satellite network and Viasat’s Amara connectivity solution, passengers can stay productive, entertained, and connected throughout their journey, from gate-to-gate, whether they’re working, streaming, or keeping in touch with family and friends. We look forward to continuing our partnership as LOT expands connectivity across its fleet,” said Viasat Aviation President Don Buchman.
Free Wi-Fi is a New Perk for Premium Passengers
LOT’s new Wi-Fi service introduces a tiered access model designed to accommodate different travel needs. Passengers can select from two paid packages, including a Chat option priced at US$7 that enables instant messaging services. A higher-tier Streaming package priced at US$29 provides full browsing capabilities, video streaming access, and the ability to work online during the flight.
The airline also offers complimentary internet access to LOT Business Class passengers and eligible frequent flyers with Miles and More status from select partner airlines. This approach reflects a wider loyalty strategy in which digital perks now go hand in hand with traditional premium services. By including Wi-Fi as part of loyalty benefits, LOT adds further value to both higher cabin classes and elite status.

Connectivity is Part of LOT’s Wider Dreamliner Modernization
The introduction of in-flight Wi-Fi forms part of a broader aircraft modernization program first announced in 2023. The long-term initiative combines broadband connectivity with a comprehensive refresh of the Boeing 787 cabin, including redesigned interiors, new seating concepts, and next-generation entertainment systems. Together, these upgrades aim to strengthen LOT’s long-haul product.

LOT is working with partners including RECARO Aircraft Seating, Safran Passenger Innovations, Viasat, and design studio Tangerine to create a new cabin environment inspired by the Polish landscape. The updated aesthetic blends the airline’s signature deep blue tones with warm copper accents, balancing national identity with a modern and globally competitive look. Across the cabin, new seating will introduce direct aisle access in Business Class, improved ergonomics and storage in Premium Economy, and enhanced comfort features for Economy passengers on longer flights.
The retrofit will also introduce a new generation of in-flight entertainment, featuring high-resolution 4K screens, Bluetooth audio connectivity, USB-C charging ports, and universal power outlets designed to support increasingly device-focused travel habits. By integrating IFC into this broader cabin transformation, LOT aims to create a more seamless onboard experience that mirrors how passengers stay connected on the ground.
