APEX Insight: Stephen Greenway, president of Swoop, explains why Canada is similar to Asia in terms of the market opportunity for an ultra low-cost carrier at Aviation Festival London 2018.

Canada’s first ultra-low cost carrier, Swoop, took to the skies in on June 20, with an inaugural flight bound for Abbotsford International Airport, departing from its base near Toronto in Hamilton, Ontario.

The ULCC is offering fares as low as CAN $9 and is owned by WestJet. Swoop President Steven Greenway joined the company on 5 March, 2018, bringing with him extensive expertise in ULCC operations including sales, distribution, planning, revenue management, as well as loyalty and commercial strategy.

In this interview, Steven (who spent five years as CCO at Scoot) talks load factors, entering the US market, why so many of his passengers are first-time flyers and what kind of vendors/suppliers Swoop prefers to work with.
