YVR Highlights Asian Destinations for Canadians This Summer

APEX Insight: Vancouver International Airport has teamed up with ad agency Taxi, to promote travel to Asia in a campaign that will launch next month.

A new campaign at Vancouver International Airport (YVR), set to launch at the end of July, plans to showcase Asia’s astounding travel opportunities. The promotion will encourage Vancouverites to choose one of Asia’s many destinations, accessible from YVR, as their next travel destination.

“YVR has seen tremendous growth from our Asia-Pacific market thanks to our increased air services, terminal improvements and ambitious initiatives,” explains, Robyn McVicker, director, Marketing & Communications for Vancouver Airport Authority. “There are amazing countries and cultures to discover in Asia and we’re excited to raise their profile through this campaign. Asia offers excellent travel and business opportunities for Canadians and we are committed to supporting our business partners to increase awareness of the region. This new cross-media campaign will put Asia at the top of the vacation list for Canadians.”

Having been named the #1 Airport in North America for the sixth consecutive year by the Skytrax World Airport Awards, YVR is an ideal place to launch this initiative. “We have set an ambitious goal of reaching 25 million passengers by 2020 and will continue delivering remarkable customer experiences to achieve this goal,” says McVicker. “These experiences will include creating interactive and meaningful connections with our passengers and memorable Asian destinations.”

YVR has chosen branding agency Taxi, to bring the campaign to life. Passengers can expect a visually impactful experience from a combination of traditional and social media. McVicker says the campaign is focused on fun, “we want to wow people with the unexpected.”

The only airport in North America with service from four mainland China carriers, YVR solidifies Vancouver’s strong geographical and cultural connection to Asia with a total of 13 carriers with service routes between YVR and 10 major destinations in Asia. Later this month, service will begin from Vancouver to Kunming, China. The city is a significant hub to other Southeast Asia destinations and will facilitate travel within the region. During peak times, there will be up to 134 direct flights weekly taking passengers from YVR to Asian destinations.

With Asia’s vast array of culture, food, activities and landscapes, this campaign will make numerous holiday destinations accessible and enticing for Canadian travelers looking for a fresh summer holiday this season. Nín hÇŽo China!
