Ahead of the Airline Passenger Experience Association’s (APEX) APEX TECH event from 28-29 of February at the Los Angeles Airport Sheraton Gateway, APEX has announced four pioneering workshops as part of the schedule.

The first workshop will comprise three different sessions on “Ancillary Revenue Use Cases,” and has been designed to challenge traditional concepts in airline revenue generation.

“Today, we stand at the forefront of a new era in airline ancillary revenue,” stated APEX CEO, Dr. Joe Leader. “Our approach to these four workshops is to ignite a transformative spark in the industry. We are not just sharing ideas; we are crafting the future. These workshops, with three session options each, have been meticulously crafted to challenge conventional thinking, encourage cross-pollination of ideas, and lead to practical, innovative solutions that will redefine the airline passenger experience and open up new revenue streams.”

Inflight Advertising: What is the Potential and How to Realize It

The first optional session within the ancillary revenues workshop, “Inflight Advertising: What is the Potential and How to Realize It,” will see attendees immerse themselves in the evolving landscape of inflight advertising.

The session aims to equip industry leaders with the knowledge and tools necessary to revolutionize inflight advertising, turning it into a significant revenue stream for airlines in the digital era.

Those who choose to take part can look forward to an in-depth exploration of how airlines can transform their advertising strategies to capitalize on digital advancements and changing passenger behaviors. Experts will guide discussions on leveraging state-of-the-art digital platforms to create immersive, targeted advertising experiences that resonate with a global audience.

Participants will also tackle the challenge of integrating advertising within the inflight experience without compromising on passenger comfort and satisfaction.

APEX General Manager, Countney Truelove, shared, “This innovative inflight advertising session exemplifies our commitment to interactive and outcome-focused discussions. The format – roundtable discussions, case study analyses and creative ideation – has been specifically chosen to foster an environment where ideas can be freely exchanged and developed. It’s about turning concepts into concrete strategies that airlines can implement to enhance revenue generation.”

Relevance of e-Commerce Use Cases and Inflight Payment

The second optional session for attendees in the first workshop at APEX TECH, “Relevance of e-Commerce Use Cases and Inflight Payment,” will provide a comprehensive examination of the burgeoning world of inflight e-commerce.

It will serve as a catalyst for airlines looking to revolutionize their approach to inflight sales, demonstrating how to turn the cabin into a lucrative marketplace while enhancing the passenger journey.

Participants will explore innovative approaches to integrating e-commerce platforms into the passenger experience, emphasizing user-friendliness and personalization. The discussion will revolve around creating a seamless, secure inflight shopping experience, underlining the importance of robust payment systems that cater to the needs of a diverse, global traveler base.

“The second session is a deep-dive into the technical intricacies and strategic potentials of e-commerce and inflight payment systems. We will explore cutting-edge technologies, from secure blockchain payment methods to AI-driven personalized shopping experiences,” explained APEX Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, Michael Childers. “The discussions will center not just on the ‘what’ and the ‘how,’ but also on the ‘why’ – why these technologies are essential for the future of airline revenue and how they can be implemented in a way that enhances the passenger experience while ensuring operational efficiency and security.”

How to Curate the Best Personalized Media Content Offering

The third and final optional session in the ancillary revenues workshop at APEX TECH, “How to Curate the Best Personalized Media Content Offering,” will focus on revolutionizing in-flight entertainment through personalization.

This session aims to guide participants through the process of curating media content that caters to individual passenger preferences. Experts and attendees will engage in dynamic discussions about leveraging artificial intelligence to analyze passenger data and create a more tailored experience.

It will also address crucial aspects such as respecting data privacy and overcoming the technological hurdles associated with implementing such advanced systems onboard.

“Our third session in this first workshop will embody the spirit of APEX TECH – pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in airline technology and customer experience. We will tackle complex topics like AI algorithms for content curation and the ethical dimensions of data use,” said APEX TECH Chairman, Jonas von Krüchten.

“I extend an enthusiastic invitation to all industry stakeholders to join us on February 28-29 at Los Angeles Airport. This event is more than a gathering; each of our four workshops are a crucible where the future of the airline industry is being forged. Be part of this transformative journey,” he continued.
