APEX Media participated in Lufthansa’s FlyingLab APEX EXPO pre-conference on Saturday. This installment of the Lufthansa FlyingLab took place on Lufthansa flight 424 from Munich to Boston, served by one of the airline’s newly delivered Airbus A350 twin aisle jets. The passengers on board were a mix of APEX delegates, speakers, media, special guests and everyday travelers.
A pre-flight event was held at the gate, where food and beverages were served and APEX/IFSA CEO Joe Leader and Lufthansa Systems CEO Olivier Krüger welcomed passengers.
The crowd was invited to check out a selection of new concepts that Lufthansa has been experimenting with, from robotic ground crew helper Pepper to Skylights’ AlloSky virtual reality headset and “Feelflight,” a stylish in-flight blanket prototype with individually tempered zones and an integrated silent alarm function.
Pepper is my homie! Wish this helpful little guy could come with us on the @LH_Systems #FlyingLab to #APEXEXPO! pic.twitter.com/WkjpR6VJsk

The highlight of the event came later, at cruising altitude, when seven guest speakers gave live presentations, complete with power point slides, filmed live inside the door two galley. The talks were broadcast via Lufthansa Systems’ streaming technology to passengers’ personal electronic devices, and well over 130 of them tuned in.
Speakers included Airbus’s head of Interiors Marketing, Anaïs Marzo, and Recaro’s VP of Strategy, Klaus Steinmeyer, plus executives from T-Mobile, Star Alliance, Panasonic Avionics, Finnair and Jetlite, a startup making waves with its holistic approach to combatting jetlag.
