STG Aerospace has revealed the world’s first photoluminescent emergency aircraft floor path system that’s available in red.

STG Aerospace revealed the newest generation of its saf-Tglo floor path marking system, dubbed SSUL-X, at MRO Europe 2019 this week. This is the first photoluminescent floor path system to boast full edge-to-edge color (and the only one that comes in red).

The solid color of the lighting strips means no unsightly borders or light leaking through, for a cleaner overall look. STG Aerospace offers a range of over 300 daytime colors to match airline brands and cabin color schemes, with a matte or glossy finish. The client can match the color – and even the pattern – of its existing flooring or carpet. The glowing colors show as green and blue. Friendly to tight turnaround times and requiring no power source, SSUL-X can be installed, for example, in less than an hour aboard a B737-7800.

What may at first seem like a basic color choice actually unlocks many branding opportunities for airlines. “We are already talking to many major carriers about the extensive capability offering of saf-Tglo SSUL-X, looking at everything from seat markings to branding and PatternMatch,” said Dr. Sean O’Kell, STG Aerospace business unit director, in a press release. “As we at STG Aerospace continue to shape illumination, making flying safer and more cost-effective than ever before, the launch of saf-Tglo SSUL-X proves we remain committed to innovation.”

Established in 1995, STG Aerospace developed, patented, and certified the world’s first photoluminescent cabin floor guidance systems, and then expanded to include photoluminescent signage as well as LED lighting. Its products are installed on over 11,000 aircraft to date.
